Following the publication of the first volume dedicated to Western Julien Alps, in 2013, we present a guidebook covering the “wildest” and less known side of this range, situated between Austria and Slovenia. A rough terrain, steep walls and a relative isolation give the visitor the powerful and precious feeling of being totally immersed in nature.

The guidebook reviews a land of deep and thick snow-covered woods, with exciting descents, very various – going from wide and gentle slopes to steep gradients, in winding canals deeply engraved in the mountains walls.

The authors, from Austria, have skied and explored every single inch of this land, and present the first guidebook for this region ever written both in Italian and German language.

About the Authors

Paul Ganitzer he’s living for more then ten years in Carinthia. He moved to Leoben for studying, after having spent his childhood in Großarl, near Salzsburg, and started exploring the nearby Styrian mountains. He’s a materials engineer, fond of running, climbing, paragliding; in Villach he started ski-mountaineering, fascinated by the Julien Alps.

Christian Wutte born in 1964, he’s living in Feistritz, in Rosental, at the feet of Caravanchi Mountains. These lands bequethed him the passion for ski-mountaineering and climbing, leading him to repeat dozens of classic routes on the Alps and Dolomites. He’s a member of Alpine Rescue Team for a long time, and a certified instructor in skiing.

Robert Zink, a chemist, was born in 1970 in Styria. He’s living in Villach since 1999 – departing from his town to explore the neearby mountains, going often solo. Besides ski-mountaineering in Europe, Africa, North America and the Caucasus, he’s fond of climbing, having repeated several routes both in the Alps and in the USA, namely in Yosemite and Colorado. He’s proud of having retraced the footsteps of Walter Pause, described in the book “100 Scalate estreme”.

Claudia Pacher, “Cloud-Ski”. she took part to skiing competition first in Reißeck, in the wonderful Mölltal. She studied nutritional sciences and biotechnologies in Wien, and then turned to the pharmaceutical industry, moving back to Carinthia, where she met his partner Paul – forming an excellent team also on the mountains!

Britta Wutte, was born in a sport-fond family, receiving her first set of skis in the early childhood. She took part to several competitions in her youth, becoming later an appreciated instructor of ski-mountaineering and skiing.
